MAI Therapeutic Modalities

  • Sex therapy is a therapeutic modality as opposed to the topics that come up in therapy. Human sexuality is more than activities or body parts. The circles of sexuality explain the 6 circles that encompass our sexuality. The way that we view the world and the way the world views us is through our sexuality. Sexuality is often not discussed in the West due to sex negativity.

Sex therapy explores the role sexuality plays in the difficulties of the client's life and in interventions that are developed to overcome those difficulties. A sex-positive and pleasure-based approach in talk therapy helps the therapist view the client in a fuller capacity and consider the client's worldview in designing interventions.

  • The Person-Centered modality strongly emphasizes collaboration, with the client taking the lead in shaping the therapeutic process and devising effective coping tools.

  • Systems Therapy is a type of therapy that recognizes the interconnectedness of all things and people. It delves into these interconnections and devises interventions to nurture and expand them.

  • Psycho-educational therapy is a type of therapy that aims to offer clients, caregivers, and loved ones a deeper understanding of mental, emotional, and relational health and the various treatment options available.

It provides essential knowledge to help individuals better navigate and manage their mental and emotional well-being.

  • Solution-focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a counseling approach that centers around identifying and utilizing clients' strengths and resources to address their issues.

This method avoids delving into past problems and instead emphasizes setting future goals and the necessary steps to accomplish them.

  • Neurodiversity affirming therapy (NAT) is a specialized therapy tailored to support individuals with diverse neurological traits and conditions. The approach focuses on creating a supportive and understanding environment to empower neurodiverse individuals through acceptance and validation of their unique experiences and perspectives.

  • Integrative Gestalt Therapy is a form of existential therapy that focuses on helping clients explore their present moment experiences, understand the interconnectedness of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop a greater awareness of their own needs and desires. This therapeutic approach emphasizes personal responsibility, self-awareness, and the exploration of how individuals relate to others and the world around them.

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a mental health treatment that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences.

It involves recalling a stressful event and using rapid eye movements to reprogram the memory with a new, positive belief. The goal is to change how the memory is stored in the brain, which can reduce or eliminate problematic symptoms.
